diverse, inclusive community of artists and audiences
Salvage Vanguard Theater (SVT) has a fierce commitment to producing, hiring, and collaborating with underserved voices in the community. We achieve this aim by providing Education, Community Dialogues and Radical Accessibility.
ARTReach provides free tickets to teens EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT to all events hosted by the Salvage Vanguard Theater. It also provides internships and playwriting, acting, and devised performance workshops.
Past workshops include collaboration with Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center's The Camino Interns. As well as new play development with McCallum High School Fine Arts Department. Next up, SVT is partnering with Austin Bat Cave in congruence with their 2018/19 season. Megan Tabaque will lead an Antigonick themed writing workshop.
Salvage Vanguard Theater offers panel discussions and professional training opportunities for adults with each of their productions. Past events have included dialogues on transgender and gender identity, race relations, and reproductive rights.
Our next community dialogue: March 30th following Antigonick, join us for a dialogue with Austin-based spiritual and religious leaders, discussing contemporary rituals around grief and death. Panel features speakers Kye Flannery and Mohamed-Umer Esmail.
Tickets to every single performance at Salvage Vanguard Theater are Pay-What-You-Can. No one is ever turned away. We believe that the arts enrich everyone’s lives. The cost of a ticket should never keep anyone away from the theater. Through-out the year, SVT also offers free workshop performances and open rehearsals. SVT provides ASL interpreted and audio described performances for each of their productions.
ASL Interpretation will be provided at the March 30th performance of Antigonick. Audio Described performance on March 28.
