JASON NEULANDER, Director and Writer:
Jason Neulander is the founder and Artistic Director of Salvage Vanguard Theater and is the director and a co-author of The Intergalactic Nemesis trilogy. He has directed and produced more than fifty world premiere theater projects in Austin, Texas, since he founded the company in 1994, including the opera Genghis Khan, which he co-authored with composer Graham Reynolds. His directing work has been staged at Salvage Vanguard Theater in Austin; Annex Theatre in Seattle; Sledgehammer Theatre in San Diego; and The Public Theater in New York, among others. His production of the opera MotherBone, which he conceived and directed, was featured in American Theatre and Texas Monthly and won the 2002 Frederick Loewe Music Theatre Award. The Austin American-Statesman hailed his 2005 opera Genghis Khan as "monumental". His company was recently named one of eight "theaters to watch" by New York’s Drama League, and in 2005 he was featured on the All Things Considered series "American Stages", aired nationally on NPR. Neulander has been the recipient of numerous theater awards, including multiple Austin Critics' Table awards for Outstanding Director, and, most recently, "Best Theatre Director" in the 2004 Austin Chronicle "Best of Austin" readers’ poll.
GRAHAM REYNOLDS, Composer and Musician:
The Texas Observer observed that "Reynolds' musical personality is one of manic exploration." Graham has written two operas, three major orchestral works, and countless chamber music, released two CDs with his band the Golden Arm Trio (In addition to a 20-CD Golden Hornet Project set), toured internationally, as well as working in film, dance and theater with such collaborators as Salvage Vanguard Theater, Rude Mechs, director Richard Linklater, and Ariel Dance Theatre. Reynolds, as a composer and with his band, has won many awards including: The Lowe Music Theater Award; Best Music Director, Austin Critics' Table; Best Live Band, Austin American-Statesman's Amp Awards; Best Jazz Band, City Search; Best Orchestral Album, Kansas City Pitch Weekly; Best Classical Musician, Austin Chronicle. Graham and fellow composer Peter Stopschinski form the Golden Hornet Project, presenting concerts of classical ensembles performing music by Austin band members, a venture helped by a sponsorship from Salvage Vanguard Theater. Graham is a resident company member with Salvage Vanguard Theater, receiving a generous, ongoing stipend. He is also a company member with the Rude Mechs. Graham has written the score for the upcoming Linklater feature film A Scanner Darkly, an adaptation of the Philip K. Dick novel featuring Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr. and Woody Harrelson.
BUZZ MORAN, Sound Design and Foley Artist:
Buzz Moran has worked as a sound designer for the Austin, TX groups Salvage Vanguard Theater, Rude Mechs, University of Texas, and St. Edwards University, as well as writing and performing music for Broom Street Theater in Madison, WI. Buzz was nominated for a B. Iden Payne award for sound design for Rude Mechs' Tesla in 2001, and won in 2002 for SVT's Intergalactic Nemesis Redux. He produces Foleyvision at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in which films are redubbed with new music, voices, and sound effects live in the theater. He is the co-producer of the Dionysium, a monthly forum for lecture, debate, music, declamation, and art. Buzz has engineered and produced various record albums, including Golden Arm Trio, The Intergalactic Nemesis, and Return of the Intergalactic Nemesis.
