(Austin, TX) –On June 23rd, Salvage Vanguard Theater's SVT Reads will present a reading of Dan Dietz's The Sandreckoner.
Salvage Vanguard Theater's SVT Reads! Series chooses a 'script in progress' and provides the playwright with a director, dramaturge, cast and rehearsal space to put the work on its feet for exploration and rewrites. The work shopped script is then presented to the public free of charge with wine and cheese reception following.
The Sandreckoner, which was developed withThe Playwrights Center and Austin Script Works, will be presented to the public at 4:00 pm on Saturday the 23rd at the new Salvage Vanguard Theater at 2803 Manor Rd.
"It's my first ever realistic play, which I think will take a lot of people who know my work by surprise." says Dietz, who has won numerous accolades, recognitions and grants for his works including tempOdyssey, Americamisfit, and Tilt Angel.
When asked about the content of The Sandreckoner, Dietz responds: "The Sandreckoner is about...well, here's the trick: the play functions best if you go in not knowing exactly what it's about (lots of suspense & surprises)."
Upon further pestering for details Dietz gave a list: " A student. A teacher. A pizza. A gun. An ancient mathematical problem. A terribly modern tragedy. The evening when the truth comes out? Or just another night in the suburbs."
The reading will be directed by Austin Scriptwork's Christi Moore and features local actors Cyndi Williams, Doug Taylor and Jeffery Mills.
