DAN DIETZ'S AMERICAMISFIT TO PLAY THE KENNEDY CENTER

(AUSTIN, TX)--On September 2, Dan Dietz's play Americamisfit, which received its original production from Salvage Vanguard Theater, will receive a reading at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

Says Dietz: "It's pretty amazing to have Americamisfit presented at the Kennedy Center. Not only is it one of those dream venues, but it's right there in our nation's capital. I can't imagine a more appropriate place for this highly political and historical play to get the chance to tell its story."

Americamisfit tells the story of the Harpe brothers, real-life counterrevolutionaries at the tail end of the American Revolution who went on a killing spree in the name of King George. The play juxtaposes moments from American history under an umbrella of rockabilly music.

The Austin Chronicle called SVT's production the number one theater event of 2005. The Austin American-Statesman said of the show: "Dietz is a powerful, thoughtful writer with deft verbal timing."

Dan Dietz is a resident company member with Salvage Vanguard Theater, which has produced four of his plays: Dirigible, Tilt Angel, tempOdyssey, and Americamisfit.

Americamisfit is being presented at the Kennedy Center by CENTERSTAGE as part of the Page to Stage Festival on Saturday, September 2, at 2:00 PM.
