SVT TAKES NYC

(AUSTIN, TX) - Salvage Vanguard Theater is making a splash on the national and international theater scenes next week in a whirlwind tour of New York with its award-winning productions The Intergalactic Nemesis and Genghis Khan.

The company will be presenting two offerings of The Intergalactic Nemesis, the first part of its episodic radio serial trilogy with live sound effects, on January 21 and 22 in New York. On the 21st, SVT will present the show at the Bowery Poetry Club in the East Village at 2 PM with the goal of generating a commercial Off-Broadway production.

On the 22nd, the company will present a twenty-minute teaser of the show to national presenters at the Rena Shagan Associates showcase at the annual Association of Performing Arts Presenters conference to promote its upcoming national tour. Rena Shagan Associates represents SVT for national and international touring.

“I couldn’t be more excited and nervous about this opportunity,” says SVT Artistic Director Jason Neulander. “We’ve been working on The Intergalactic Nemesis for ten years. It’s gotten lots of local awards and acclaim. Now we’re about to take it to the nation.”

Salvage Vanguard Theater was also selected as one of ten performing arts groups from around the world to present a “pitch” to tour its opera Genghis Khan at the International Society of the Performing Arts conference in New York on January 19. Past presenters at the pitch session include Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company (United States), Ping Chong & Company / Ensemble Sequentia (multi-national), Sydney Dance Company (Australia), and China National Culture and Art (China).

“I can't believe that we were chosen for the ISPA pitch session,” says Neulander. “It’s an incredible opportunity.”

Often, pitch sessions lead to international tours. Genghis Khan received critical and popular acclaim during its original run in Austin in 2005, but has never been seen outside the city limits.

To help launch the New York presentations, SVT will present The Intergalactic Nemesis for one performance only in Austin on Wednesday, January 18, at The Hideout at 8:00 PM. Tickets for that event are $12 - $35.
