Salvage Vanguard Theater Donates 500 Pounds of Food
AUSTIN, TX--Through its discount ticket program, Salvage Vanguard Theater generated 500 pounds of canned food donations over the run of MotherBone. The food was donated to the Capitol Area Food Bank.
The program, called "Starving Artist Nite", allows ticket buyers to purchase tickets for half-price if they bring a canned food donation to a show. MotherBone, which broke the company's total attendance records, generated a record amount of canned food donations, bringing the total for the year to more than 800 pounds
"The timing of the opening of MotherBone, an opera about a witch, was perfect because of Halloween. The timing of the closing is perfect because of Thanksgiving," says SVT Artistic Director Jason Neulander. "We planned the timing of the show's opening, but there is no way we could have planned on our audience's generosity with canned food donations. We hope that this will help a lot of people have a happier Thanksgiving."
For the rest of its audience, Salvage Vanguard offers up a different kind of holiday nutrition. Now in its 6th year, The Best Salvage Vanguard Holiday Ever features 11 world-premiere 5-minute plays based on the theme "elves". The Best Salvage Vanguard Holiday Ever runs two performances ONLY, December 13 and 14 at 9 PM at Little City downtown (910 Congress).
