SVT Partners With KUT: The Intergalactic Nemesis To Air On Soundsight
AUSTIN, TX--Salvage Vanguard Theater's episodic radio serial The Intergalactic Nemesis will air on KUT-FM (90.5) for six consecutive Sundays beginning May 27 at 10:30 AM on the radio station's program Soundsight. The show can be accessed as streaming audio through KUT's website: www.kut.org.
The Intergalactic Nemesis is an homage to the great radio serials of the 1940s. The year is 1933. Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Molly Sloan and her intrepid research assistant Timmy Mendez are researching a story on the rise of the Nazi party when they encounter Ben Wilcott, a strange man who tells them that Earth faces a dangerous invasion from outer space. At first skeptical, Molly and Timmy find themselves in a web of intrigue that extends past the bounds of their imaginations, even past the bounds of the Milky Way! Will Molly, Timmy, and Ben solve the mystery of the Zygonian threat before it is too late? Tune into The Intergalactic Nemesis, a radio serial told in six 15-minute cliff-hanging episodes!
Says Salvage Vanguard's co-Artistic Director Jason Neulander: "This is a six-year dream-come-true for Salvage Vanguard Theater. I can't wait to tune into KUT's Soundsight to hear the show!"
Soundsight is KUT's program for people who are blind and reading impaired. Soundsight's programming consists mainly of newspaper and magazine articles read aloud. Airing a radio serial is a new direction for the program. Says Soundsight's producer, Michael Lee: "It's a great opportunity to try something new on Soundsight. I think The Intergalactic Nemesis is a show people will really like." Through Soundsight, The Intergalactic Nemesis could reach as many as 90,000 people over the six-week run.
The Intergalactic Nemesis was originally recorded at the State Theatre in downtown Austin in one take before a live audience on May 30, 2000. The program features the voices of Lindsay Doleshal as Molly, Corey Gagne as Timmy, Ben Willcott as Ben, Dan Dietz as Mysterion, and Chad Nichols and David Sangalli as various humans and nonhumans. Jason Neulander reads narration and directed the show.
The Intergalactic Nemesis was conceived by Ray Colgan and written by Colgan, Neulander, and Jessica Reisman. Live foley art (sound effects) was created by Buzz Moran and performed by Moran, Ben Anderson, and John Defore. The live music was composed and performed by Graham Reynolds of Golden Arm Trio.
Salvage Vanguard Theater will present Return of the Intergalactic Nemesis, the sequel to The Intergalactic Nemesis, before a live audience on June 9 and 10, and will record the performances for the purpose of radio broadcast. Return of the Intergalactic Nemesis runs on Saturday June 9 at 7:30 and 10:00 PM and Sunday June 10 at 2:00 and 7:30 PM at Ducloux Hall in the Austin Lyric Opera building (901 Barton Springs Road). All eight ten minute episodes will be performed at each show. Tickets are $12. For details about Return of the Intergalactic Nemesis, call (512) 474-SVT-6 or visit http://www.salvagevanguard.org.
