Salvage Vanguard Theater Releases Cast Recording of The Cry Pitch Carrolls

AUSTIN, TX--After more than a year of anticipation, Salvage Vanguard Theater has released a recording of selections from the company's 1999 production of The Cry Pitch Carrolls with book and lyrics by Ruth E. Margraff and music by Golden Arm Trio.

The recording features 14 songs from The Cry Pitch Carrolls, including the emotional climactic arias sung by the original Austin cast. In addition to the live recordings from the production, the CD includes a bonus track of "Road to Emmeus Carroll" recorded in the studio with Golden Arm Trio and April Matthis on lead vocal. The CD can be purchased at Salvage Vanguard's production of Wallpaper Psalm, which runs through April 14 or on the Salvage Vanguard Theater website: http://www.salvagevanguard.org.

The Cry Pitch Carrolls was nominated for 12 local theater awards in 2000, including Best Musical, Best Director of a Musical, Best Musical Direction, and Best Ensemble Performance. Of the music, the Austin Chronicle said: "The emotion of the piece would not be as clear without the exceptional music of the Golden Arm Trio, which caresses Margraff's text and lifts the story to new levels." And the Austin American-Statesman said: "What ties it all together is the eerie music [ranging] from etherial sweetness to barely human sounds."

The Cry Pitch Carrolls is the second CD to be released by Salvage Vanguard Theater. The first was The Intergalactic Nemesis, an episodic radio serial, in December 2000. Jason Neulander, the company's co-Artistic Director, says, "This seems to be the logical next step for us. We've been publishing the scripts we produce for years, yet so much of our productions revolve around the soundscape. People have been asking about recordings and we're proud to be able to finally offer them."

Salvage Vanguard Theater is a nonprofit arts organization located in Austin, Texas, committed to fostering a dynamic exchange between visionary artists and audiences new to their work. To that end, Salvage Vanguard Theater seeks to combine explosive energy with expert technique, creating forms that defy theatrical tradition and define a new American avant-garde.
