DIRIGIBLE FLIES AGAIN
AUSTIN, TX--The Texas Fine Arts Association, in conjunction with the Austin Museum of Art, is presenting a staged reading of Salvage Vanguard Theater's production of the award-winning play Dirigible by Dan Dietz. The reading will take place for one night only on Thursday, January 25, at the TFAA gallery (7th and Congress) at 6:00 PM. The event is free and open to the public.
Hailed as "thought provoking and adroit ... the best Salvage Vanguard production I have seen" by the Austin American-Statesman, Dirigible won the Austin Critics' Table Award for Best New Play in 1999. Dirigible begins as Dr. Aaron P. Treadwell's lecture on the sabotage of the Hindenburg, but quickly (and tragically) careens into 70s sitcom, 40s film noir, and, ultimately, pointillist painting. Michael Kranes returns as the obsessive doctor; Stephanie Swenson repeats her role as Laura Treadwell, Aaron's estranged wife; and Corey Gagne reprises his role of the Saboteur (listed as one of the top theatrical performances of 2000 in the Austin Chronicle). The reading will also feature the projections and sound design of the original, critically-acclaimed production.
