Tidbits From Salvage Vanguard Theater
AUSTIN, TX--Salvage Vanguard Theater is not slowing down over the holidays. In fact, the company seems to be busier than ever, producing plays, releasing CDs, and securing funds for the future.
- Producing Plays—Salvage Vanguard Theater presents "The Next Best Salvage Vanguard Holiday Ever" at Little City Coffeehouse downtown on Friday and Saturday, December 8 and 9 at 9 PM. "This year really does look to be the very best ever," says co-Artistic Director Dan Dietz. Audience members are encouraged to come early if they want to sit. Tickets are $5 and doors open at 8 PM.
- Releasing CDs—At long last, "The Intergalactic Nemesis" is available on CD! Recorded before a live audience at the State Theatre in May, "The Intergalactic Nemesis" is a double-disc set with all six episodes. A limited run of the CD is available online at www.salvagevanguard.org and will be for sale at "The Next Best Salvage Vanguard Holiday Ever" for only $15. "This is a five-year-old dream come true," says Jason Neulander, the company's co-Artistic Director, "and it sounds great, too! It's a great gift for the holidays."
- Securing Funds—Salvage Vanguard Theater has been awarded a $45,000 grant from The Houston Endowment for operational support for the next three years. "We've been waiting for a chance like this to come along," says Neulander. "This grant will make a dent in our expenses and help raise other funds so we can spend that much more time on what we do best: creating world-class avant-garde performance."
Salvage Vanguard Theater is already looking ahead to 2001 with a performance of the award-winning play "Dirigible" at the TFAA gallery on January 25. The performance is part of the Nic Nicosia exhibit by TFAA and The Austin Museum of Art. Next year, the company will also be presenting five other productions, including the anticipated remounting of Ruth E. Margraff's Wallpaper Psalm and a concert reading of The Baba Yaga, an SVT-commissioned opera by Golden Arm Trio and award-winning playwright Karen Hartman.
Salvage Vanguard Theater is a nonprofit arts organization located in Austin, Texas, committed to fostering a dynamic exchange between visionary artists and audiences new to their work. To that end, Salvage Vanguard Theater seeks to combine explosive energy with expert technique, creating forms that defy theatrical tradition and define a new American avant-garde.
