Coming in May: The Intergalactic Nemesis!
Salvage Vanguard Theater presents The Intergalactic Nemesis, a 1930's-style radio serial written by Ray Colgan, Lisa D'Amour, Julia Edwards, and Jessica Reisman, and directed by Jason Neulander. The show will be performed live and will run for two nights only: Monday May 29 and Tuesday May 30. Both performances are at 8:00 PM at the State Theatre, 719 Congress Avenue. Tickets are $10. For more information, call 474-SVT-6.
The Intergalactic Nemesis tells the story of Molly Sloan, intrepid Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter. Molly (and her young sidekick Timmy Mendez) meet a mysterious man from the future named Ben Willcott. Ben gives Molly the scoop on the story of the century: alien beings from another galaxy are attempting to take over the earth with the help of an evil hypnotic genius named Mysterion. Molly and her friends journey across the stars in their race to stop Mysterion and the aliens from achieving their evil aims.
The Intergalactic Nemesis was originally produced by Salvage Vanguard Theater in 1996 in weekly installments at Little City Coffee on Congress Avenue. This 2000 revival (a slightly condensed version to be performed in its entirety each night) will bring back many popular performers from the original (including Ben Willcott and Chad Nichols) performing alongside Salvage Vanguard regulars such as co-Artistic Director Dan Dietz (as Mysterion) and Corey Gagne (as Timmy) and will even introduce some brand new talent (Lindsey Doleshal, an SVT newcomer, as Molly).
The two performances of The Intergalactic Nemesis will serve as a benefit to raise money for Salvage Vanguard Theater's upcoming project, The American Demons. Created by Dan Dietz, Deborah Hay, Ruth E. Margraff, and Jason Neulander, The American Demons is an original performance piece which will explore the nature and causes of youth violence. The piece is based on the premise of Dostoevsky's masterpiece The Possessed, as well as on accounts of recent contemporary high school shootings, such as those at Columbine High. The American Demons is scheduled to open in September 2000.
Salvage Vanguard Theater is a nonprofit arts organization located in Austin, Texas, committed to fostering a dynamic exchange between visionary artists and audiences new to their work. To that end, Salvage Vanguard Theater seeks to combine explosive energy with expert technique, creating forms which defy theatrical traditions and define a new American avant garde.
