JENNY LARSON is the Artistic Director of Salvage Vanguard Theater (SVT). Since arriving in Austin, TX in 1997 she has worked as an actor, director, educator, and producer of the theater arts. She has been working with SVT since 2001 and has worked with the company as an actor, director, literary manager and associate artistic director. Her work with Salvage Vanguard Theater includes performing in Death of a Cat (B Iden Payne and Austin Critics Table award nominations for best actress), America Misfit (B Iden Payne Nomination for ensemble performance), Intergalactic Nemesis: Twin Infinity (Austin Crtitcs Table Nomination for best supporting actress in a comedy) and tempOdyessy (winner of the Austin Critics Table “Body of Work” award for her performance in that and several productions). Her directing credits with SVT include reverberations, THRUSH ( “When we see a work like this with consistently strong, thoughtful performances and design, we have to tip our hats to the director. With a keen eye, Larson has led her cast, designers, and crew to create a cohesive, captivating tale”—The Austinist),Voices Underwater (listed in the Austin Chronicle’s “Top 10 plus 1 of 2007’: “Jenny Larson's resourceful direction got its spooky vibe under our skin right away and for good.”), and Hamilton Township (Austin Chronicles “Top 10 Most Memorable Live Performance Offerings of 2008”) Jenny launched and curated the script development program SVT Reads in 2006, fostering relationships between the Austin theater scene and playwrights from around the country. She also launched a series of educational programs with the company: SVT Kids, SVTeen, and SVT Family Fest. She was a founding member and co-artistic director of local theater troupe St Idiot Collective (SIC). For St Idiot Collective she has worked as a producer, director and actor. Her last directing project for SIC was You Are Pretty by Adrienne Dawes. Austin Chronicle reviews of the production boast that “Jenny Larson, interim artistic director at Salvage Vanguard Theater, deserves a heap of credit for making You Are Pretty's ever-changing tempo flow so naturally. Tickets are hard to come by, but this funny, daring, and real production may well be the first can't-miss show of 2008.” Jenny was recently awarded “Oustanding Direction” from the Austin Critics Table in 2007-08 for her work with Voices Underwater and You Are Pretty. In addition to her work with SVT and SIC, Jenny has worked as an actor or a director with Rude Mechanicals, Zach Scott Theater, Austin Playhouse, Frontera @ Hyde Park, the former State Theater, , The Vortex, St Edward’s Mary Moody Northern Theater, and Pro-Arts Collective. Jenny graduated with a BA from St Edwards University, magna cum laude, in 2001. She is trained in Suzuki, Viewpoints, Rasa boxes, and Contact Improv. She does voice over work for animation and she was a member of Actors Equity Association. She has taught theater classes at Zach Scott, Kids Acting and the Dougherty Arts Center.
