GNAP Theater Projects presents: David Razowsky’s Viewpoint Immersion

[Jan 7-11, 2009]

”Once you define it, it exists.”

While teaching for Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre School, Second City veteran David Razowsky was exposed to--and inspired by--the power of Anne Bogart and Tina Landau's Viewpoints training, and immediately saw how the tools of Viewpoints play in improv theatre. Razowsky's Viewpoints Immersion will focus the actor to spontaneously respond through compulsion rather than what choice is “right or wrong.” The actor will learn the power of working from impulse and true-play in the present moment. Be prepared to see your craft in a new light, be prepared to see with new eyes, and be prepared to be rejuvenated.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday classes will meet from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday’s classes will met from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a culmination performance on the evening of Sunday, January 11th. This class will cap off at 16 students. Tuition is $400. Registration and more information can be found here.

What actors have said about Razowsky’s workshops:
* “This program was outstanding and took my performance to another level.”
* “David Razowsky is an amazing teaches and pushes every student to the reach the best of their ability.”
* “David’s approach to improvisation really opened my eyes to a whole new way of thinking.”
* “…an inspiring, high energy, kick-ass teacher!”

ArtReach

[ Tue Feb 17, at 10am; Thurs Feb 19th at 8pm]

ArtReach is founded on the principle that there is a natural empathetic connection between tradition-defying artwork and the rebellious nature of youth. ArtReach seeks to nurture the creative potential of adolescents by fostering a dynamic exchange between visionary artists and high school students, with a particular focus on under-served populations. Our goal is to help young people appreciate, support, and ultimately create theater that questions the world around them, knowing that these questions can lead to positive social change.

Through ArtReach, high school students attend free matinee performances of Salvage Vanguard's plays. Then, the artists who created those productions go to the classroom to hold discussions and workshops with the students. Past and present participating schools include Lanier High School, Johnston High School, McCallum High School, The Phoenix Academy, Garza High School, and the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

To participate in ArtReach, just email Jenny Larson!
