A REGIME CHANGE. A NEW TWIST IN AN OLD CLASSIC. TWO NEW WORKS & SO MUCH MORE!
2008 will be super great for Salvage Vanguard Theater! To match its age of 14, Salvage Vanguard Theater continues a metaphoric puberty as it grows into its new digs at 2803 Manor and readies itself for a fond farewell in May as long time Artistic Director and co-founder Jason Neulander takes off to pursue new adventures-- but not before he directs the newest version of The Intergalactic Nemesis at Austin's classic Paramount Theater! Jenny Larson, who will step in as interim AD, will direct the premiere of Jason Grote's Hamilton Township and Graham Reynolds and Shannon McCormick are collaborating on a new work that explores the passion of good ol' American football. We'll be bending and flexing our theatrical muscles with three new plays in SVT Reads! Series as well as a brand new work by SVT Alum Dan Dietz. But that's not all! We've got the Labor Party! We've got a our summer program for the young SVTers out there and, of course, the always awesome Best Salvage Vanguard Holiday Ever. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr-eat!
[ HAMILTON TOWNSHIP by Jason Grote ]
|
May 30 - June 21, 2008 |
Based on a true story, Hamilton Township combines memoir, surrealist horror, and a New Jersey folk tale to tell a morality play about adolescence, the nature of evil and the worst party in the history of ever. Jason and Babydoll are trapped in the house of a sleeping old woman with a case of wine coolers as a toxic storm rages outside. Neither know what's been put in store for them by the nameless bully who put their very special evening together. Directed by Jenny Larson. |
[ Unbeaten by Shannon McCormick with Graham Reynolds ]
|
Unbeaten is
a play about professional football that takes place within
the parameters of a game of football--one hour, offense and
defense. Sure, there's a detailed game plan, but the play
has to adjust to situations as they arise, and each evening's
performance will feature different text shuffled in different
orders depending on these situations. Performed by Shannon
McCormick and music by Graham Reynolds.
