2004 Season

SVT: celebrating 10 big years of world premieres!

It's our 10th anniversary and to celebrate, we're producing one of our most eclectic seasons in, well, a decade! We look back at the last 10 years with shows in rock clubs and tickets at 1994 prices. Then we look forward with two world premieres by two incredible up-and-comers. And then we close out the year with our 8th annual holiday new play festival. Season passes available at (512) 474-SVT-6. Happy birthday, SVT!

[ The Big Salvage Vanguard Birthday Bash ]

An entire month of parties, readings, rock club gigs, and even a short film festival performed in venues all over Austin celebrating 10 years of SVT. We kick it off with a birthday party where we're going to burn our old slogan ("I hate theater") in a bonfire and announce our new slogan! Plus cake! And best of all, since it all started 10 years ago, tickets for each of the events are set at SVT's 1994 prices. Which is to say $5! Happy birthday to us!!!

[ Know Dog by Kathryn Walat ]

Another world premiere from your friends in the theater business. Alice's husband is never around. So, she falls in love with his dog Stanley. The audience plays the dog. This funny, lyrical play is by a writer who we think is going to hit the big-time real soon, so don't miss your chance to catch her work at the beginning of her career!

JUNE 4 - 26, 2004 @ THE OFF CENTER (2211-A HIDALGO STREET)

[ The Salvage Vanguard Labor Party ]

Become a card carrying member. Catch previews of our upcoming work, including the new opera Genghis Khan. Drink up at our cash bar. Take home cool stuff, including a commissioned song from our Resident Company Members, from our silent auction. And best of all, all proceeds go to pay the talented artists who work on our shows. It's a win-win for everyone!

[ Death of a Cat by C. Denby Swanson ]

Yessir, another world premiere from SVT! One by one members of the family of succumbed to a mysterious disease. Now the twins are quarantined and Mother's only hope for Father's life lies in the hands of the modest family doctor. But is the doctor the devil? Creepy and funny, Death of Cat deals in disease, sock puppets, and death! Think Tim Burton meets Harold Pinter and you've got the idea. Perfect Halloween fare! Featuring the triumphant return of Resident Company Member Dan Dietz to the stage!

SEPTEMBER 10 - OCTOBER 2, 2004 @ THE OFF CENTER (2211-A HIDALGO STREET)

[ Ajax (por nobody) by Alice Tuan ]

Greek mythology, in all its sexuality, magic, and gore, meets the LA porn industry. We presented a reading of this show as part of our Birthday Bash and it polarized the audience. Sam Lipman told us it was one of the three best plays he's seen in Austin (keep in mind that for this actors were reading from scripts!) and our board member Will Dibrell said: "Jason, I have to tell you that I hated Ajax." Funny, titillating, and ultimately very disturbing, Ajax will not leave you unmoved. Is Ajax ingenious or just indulgent? You be the judge.

OCTOBER 15 - NOVEMBER 6, 2004 @ THE CHURCH OF THE FRIENDLY GHOST (209 PEDERNALES STREET)

[ The Best Salvage Vanguard Holiday Ever ]

It wouldn't be the holidays in Austin without this quick and dirty five minute new play festival. And this year, we're featuring the writers we've worked with over the past decade. And of course the annual singalong!
